10 Tips To Beat The Clock

  1. Book CoverSay 'no' to at least one thing every day that you don't really want to do, need to do or has a low return for the effort you would put into it.
  2. Take a big project that you have been putting off and break it down into a few small tasks that you could get done over the next few days. Don't let the scope of a project keep you from taking action.
  3. Create a to-do list every day and decide which two-three items on it are top priority. Do your most important item first thing in the morning.
  4. Set specific times of day to check your email and stick to it. Avoid interruptions - don't read and respond to every email as they arrive.
  5. If you have an important task to get done, open up your time planner and schedule it for a specific chunk of time on a specific day – then do it!
  6. Use a hands free telephone headset and while waiting 'on hold' sort through your files, organize paperwork piles, or make a belt from paperclips.
  7. Get business books you want/need to read on CD or podcasts and listen to them on your way to and from work.
  8. When sending emails only CC those people who really need to be in the loop. Politely ask co-workers to remove your from their CC list when you don't need to be part of an online discussion.
  9. Choose one action to take today, no matter how small, which will move you closer to achieving a major goal.
  10. Take a real lunch break. Even if you only have 30 minutes, get away from your desk and give your brain a chance to rest and refresh.
