Strategic Email
Strategic Email is a web-based education program designed
to help larger corporations better manage their email and
facilitate its incorporation into an overall record management
strategy. This program provides an immediate and cost-effective
way of addressing the two major challenges of managing corporate
email today: reducing the volume of email and minimizing
legal risks, based on its content. Click

Sterling Consulting Group, in collaboration with lawyers
from Reed
Smith, one of the largest law firms in the US, present
this interactive online program that incorporates Reed Smith’s
knowledge of litigation risks and costs associated with
email and SCG’s expertise in designing education programs
that are engaging and effective.
Strategic Email features Flash animation and audio, and
can be viewed in less than 25 minutes. The program can be
presented in foreign-language versions and further customized
to reinforce the customer’s corporate email policy.

Strategic Email is presented in the
following five modules:
Module 1: Appropriate Use of Email
Because email is so convenient and inexpensive, it is the
communication channel of choice for most business people.
However, it is important to know when you are sending an
email message that might be inappropriate. Topics covered
in this module include:
- Sensitive subject matter
- Provocative issues
- Areas of conflict
- Opinions and assumptions
Module 2: Email Etiquette
Your emails not only communicate your words, but they
also communicate an implied message. The implied message
can be either positive or negative. Following an established
email etiquette helps to ensure that your implied message
is consistent with the message you expressly communicate.
Topics covered in this module include:
- Unnecessary CC of postings
- Harassment, spam and flames
- Sloppy grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Unfriendly tone
Module 3: Important Email Facts
This module covers some of the privacy and legal concerns
of email, and is customized to include and reinforce the
customer’s specific email and internet usage policies
and standards. Topics covered in this module include:
- Email as evidence in a court of law
- Ownership of emails
- Privacy of employee’s email
- Email messages as permanent documents
Module 4: The Ins and Outs of Mailbox Management
Every month the volume of email sent to businesses increases.
This means the volume of emails that we have to read also
increases, which in turn makes our mailbox harder to control.
This module introduces some tools and strategies that will
help you manage your mailbox more efficiently and make your
outgoing messages more effective. Topics covered include:
- Eliminating the clutter
- Establishing a filing system
- Making effective requests
- Top-down message writing
Module 5: Recap and Quiz
Finally, the key points of the program are reviewed and
viewers take a quiz covering the main themes of the presentation.
Some of the topics included in this last module are:
- Using the E.M.A.I.L. test
- Emails that create rapport
- Eight-question quiz
- Where to go from here
